As of Tuesday, October 8, all power and communications have been restored to Dover Cylinder Head. Please bear with us as we, like so many others, work to catch up from the nearly week and a half of work lost to the effects of Hurricane Helene.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve collected some of the most commonly asked questions about what we do here at Dover Cylinder Head.

What information do I need to request a quote?

To build a quote for you, we definitely need the application (make/model of the vehicle), year, and engine size.

There are some heads that we can quote with just that, but you’ll need to be prepared to answer several questions so we can narrow down what you’re looking for. Common additional information includes casting number or engine family and 8th digit of the VIN. If you’re working on a diesel application, the serial number or full VIN is required.

Please note that there are some engines that we’ll require much more detailed information for, but we can tell you that specifically when we talk to you.

Do I need new gaskets/bolts?

We highly recommend replacing any and all gaskets that have been removed for maintenance and repair.

For any application that uses torque-to-yield (TTY) head bolts, replacement is always required by the manufacturer.

For most applications, we offer high grade and rebuilder’s grade aftermarket parts to get you running again. Please let us know if you’d like us to include that as part of your quote.

What parts should I leave on/remove for repair?

You should always remove all sensors, brackets, plugs, plastic pieces, injectors, pumps, hoses, nozzles, etc. Blocks should be bare with main caps; disassembly of a block will be added to the cost of the work.

Please note that we are not responsible for any parts left on.

If you’re unsure of what needs to be removed, feel free to give us a call.

Will I receive a new or reconditioned cylinder head?

We primarily supply reconditioned cylinder heads. However, some applications are vulnerable to irreparable failure and reconditioned heads are not available. When possible, we do our best to source updated aftermarket parts, but that is not possible with all applications.

Please call for availability.

What is a core/core charge?

The core is the original part (cylinder head).

To help keep costs down, it is industry standard to include a core charge.

When you purchase a head, you’ll receive a reconditioned core from us. We supply a prepaid return label for you to ship the core back to us. Once we receive the original head, we’ll refund you the core charge.

How will I get my head?

We offer free pick up and delivery to automotive professionals in the Upstate South Carolina and Greater Hendersonville, North Carolina areas.

Local individuals are welcome to drop heads off at our shop in Berea, SC.

For all others, we ship ground via UPS or FedEx.

Can you service my vehicle?

We do not do any service or maintenance on the vehicle.

Do you port or polish?

We do not do any performance work.

We’re always happy to install customer-provided parts. Please note, however, that we do not warranty any work done on customer-supplied parts.

How long will my order take?

We are open Monday-Friday and most orders ship out in 1-3 business days. Some items may be on backorder and will take a little longer to deliver. In that case, we’ll try to let you know how long the delay will be.

We ship using USPS and UPS and most orders arrive within 5-7 business days.
